World Player of the Year???

Click on the link below.

LINK
A different take on the list that makes up the contenders for this year's FIFA World Player of the Year Award.

The comment for Frank 'deflection and in' Lampard sums up what I also think of the man. A good player, who is out of his depth at the VERY top level. How this player got into the top three last year is beyond me.

What is most galling I suppose is the inclusion of players like Essien, Gattuso, Drogba, Adriano but no place (votes) for Fabregas?

FULL LIST

My vote? Only one - Cannavaro

Purely for never having won it before when he really deserved it...........Henry!

Plus, the other really "GREAT" players had even worse years and it could be argued that however he played in the finals he did appear in the finals of both the biggest club and national competitions this year............

I don't totally disagree with Mr Kaplan as to who he think should win it but at this level (and we are talking about the finest exponent of the game at this time) then surely if you are the best and lauded as such your influence should be more than a couple of dives, missed one-on-ones and sulks (before and after the match) against Barcelona and an inability to contribute and show off your talent on the biggest stage of all - AGAIN (take your pick from ALL of France's matches in Germany.) Then it should take more than a "he has never won it before..." to convince me he is worth it.
On the other hand, Cannavaro was INSTRUMENTAL in his club side WINNING (note: he won TWO medals last season!!!)) the Italian League Title and was head and shoulders above any player at the World Cup in terms of consistency and ability to rouse his team to perfrom and leading by example by the way he actually played. On this basis there is no contest.
Going by your reason he should win is does sentiment really have to come into it????????? NOT in my opinion.

What the fuck is Vieira doing there? And Rosicky? Had 1 good game in a year and his transfer price more than halved. Figo too. Wierd list. It's got to be Cannavaro I guess.

Why isn't Zambrotta on the list?

Don't think there can be too many arguments against Cannavaro winning it (although I don't think his league title medal counts anymore...). What is more worrying is that we are talking about the BEST player in the WORLD, a name to join the ranks of Pele, Cruyff, Maradonna, Platini... and its a defender. A f*cking defender! What a sad indictment of the state of the game today.

And for the record, I blame Mourinho for the functional, unattractive but efficient style of play he has introduced (albeit successfully).
