FFL 2007 / 08 Week 6

The obvious talking point this week has been the departure of Maureen from (a half-empty) Stamford Bridge.

Before I give out the scores for the week I want to have my say on the matter.

While at the game on Sunday I was thinking about the whole situation and interspersed with Rent Boys chanting “Stevie Clarke’s Blue and White Army” during Sunday’s match, something occurred to me.

In a way Ambramovich must be sooooooooo gutted. He has bought the club, had a top manager, spent half a billion quid on his toy and for what?

Here is what I mean:

Having all that money – more than some countries - and being able to have anything you want, any woman, any yacht, any executive jet – absolutely anything (you get the picture). You are able to more or less ‘buy’ anybody even bribe anybody but at Old Trafford on Sunday you had to sit through 90 minutes while 76,000 people around you took the piss and you know they think you're a cunt!

Having to sit there, owning his little club in blue (and steward yellow for away games), with all their smallness, all their insignificance in the greater scheme of things. A club with such a desperate longing to be loved and wanted – the true wannabes of football - while all around you sit among something immense, something genuinely huge, a club with history, a club with true meaning and one that offers everything you really want but is beyond you. To make matters worse, on your way home, up in the air in your executive jet surrounded by yes-men (and women) you think about it all and down the road where you live there is another club. A club that is fighting hard against your like. Playing a brand of football you can only get at Stamford Bridge if you are watching it on Sky or playing PS3.

Just a thought Roman, Arsenal’s last team was made up of players that cost a total of approx. £50m. Yes, that’s less than a Sheva and an Essien. Think about it. And the fans you so longingly want to chant your name think you are a cunt.

It must hurt to be the man who has everything, and who can have anything but not have what he wants in football. What will he do? The drama continues……………

Anyway, back to matters FFL. A stonking week for Nick PC with an incredible score of 25, the season’s top score thus far. Even goalkeeper Carson got an assist! Leader Stathi still managed a credible 15 points and is 11 points clear.

The Rafa ‘Shit, I knew I should’ve played that bloke that cost me £23m against Birmingham’ Benitez award for wrong decisions and poor performance goes to James with a mere 3.

Congratulations to Sid who not only scored 17 but lowered the Grovelands Pitch and Put record score among us regulars (this year that is just me and Sid!) to 31. Well done.

On the transfer front, a gutted Theo gets rid of Michael ‘forget that scoring record, will ever play 10 games in a row’ Owen for Viduka. The rotund one was also the subject of a bid from Nick PC but Owen was worth more than Bianchi.

Theo also got rid of “Benafuckingyoun” for Cahill.

Nick PC did manage to get rid of Bianchi by using Dean Ashton as his back-up bid.
