FFL Week 23

Hey, I'm back again! Sorry about the delay - I had no internet for a while and I've been busy with other shit.

And what a week to miss. A double week in the Premier League has seen James create a cushion between himself and the chasing pack. He scored a massive 29, nudging him 17 points in front. Donald bottom scored with 4. I'm going to keep it brief, so here's the table, which has been audited:

FFL 2008/09
LEAGUE TABLE
Diff Total Points
1st James 259
17 2nd Nick PC 242
21 3rd Theo 238
21 4th Stathi 238
36 5th Sid 223
46 6th Mike 213
66 7th Don 193
68 8th Nick Ath 191
Predictably, there was a transfer frenzy this week. If your transfer doesn't appear below, it's either because they player you wanted is already taken or you tried to buy a player before he was listed (Stathi).

Donald, yes Donald: Shorey OUT Konchesky IN
Mike: James OUT Howard IN, and Rosicky OUT Carrick IN.

Mike's also raised a query about his purchase of Ballack. When he bought Ballack, he already had Shaun Wright-Phillips and Ashley Cole. However, SWP was down as a Man City player at the time, even though Mike had bought him at auction as a Chelsea player. I think that's okay but if anyone objects, let your voice be heard now.

Bear in mind the scores above don't include midweek FA Cup points.

Over and out.

Your Chairman

welcome back Mr Chairman

Many congrats to the good doctor on a game well played. I think we should honour his victory by making this the last ever Dwight Yorke Cup and renaming it next year. Any suggestions?

That kind of sacrilege will not be tolerated on this site Mr Mouse. Dwight Yorke Cup it is, and will be so for ever.

Re-naming? What happened to tradition? Unless Mighty Mouse has negotiated a foreign company to sponsor the trophy. A la the Bin Laden stadium in North London???!!!!

By the way. Well done Mr Kaplan - incredible performance this season and without the lady boy playing and scoring regualrly!!

Thank you for the communal boks!

Re Mike & Ballack. Very good of you to point it out Mr Pieri and poor form for the rest of us not spotting it earlier. HOWEVER, 12ish years on the rules havent changed and are well known. A player is down according to the club he was under at the start of the season regardless of the fact that the website changes it. So, for me it's a no brainer and the transfer is void and any points gained are lost and replaced by any points he would have gor from his previous player. Sorry to be a stick in the mud. If not, for example, I could have bought Robbie Keane for Darren Bent despite already having 2 L'Pool players........ if the rule changes it needs to be decided before next years auction

In the case of Ballack v Collars Up: We the jury didn't pick it up so we are all culpable and in that respect it should stand as is. Either that or we simply dock points...

George Kaplan said...

Mr Mouse.....must disagree as I (and probably most others) don't vet every transfer. It's the chairman's job and this one (in an otherwise exemplary record) slipped him by.......so the rest of us are not culpable and therefore should not be potentially punished for it. In general life,if rules are broken (obviously by accident in this case)and initially not noticed does that mean that when it is picked up things shouldn't be rectified.

PS YES, before anyone else says it this is affected by my position, by being second about 6 times, by the history of DP beating me when I was 16 points ahead in the last week and too idle to use any of my remaining transfers......AND as Mr Chariman would testify my long-standing analness when it comes to rules!!

Whatever.

More importantly why aren't FA Cup scores included?

Collars Up said...

So if I do lose Ballack can I presume that I can backdate a transfer? I'm only ssaying this as if I was punished for the originial indescretion then I would have made a subsequent transfer later. Surely I shouldn't be punished TWICE? Incidentally I only realised when I got an updated speadsheet after asking for it. Is honesty the best policy? We'll see????!!!!

All i want to know is why my transfer, (the 'astute' one the Chairman and I discussed) hasn't been included?

Re Pieri-Gate, whatever. Mistakes can be made, fair play to Mike for his honesty but rules are rules i guess. Not sure what kind of punishment can be dished out but perhaps we can get him to sing 'you'll never walk alone' at the top of his voice outside Old Trafford...

I won't have my record sullied by this scandal goddamit. So, to the matter in hand. If the transfer is void, the points are deducted and the previous incumbent's points, if he has any, are added. There's no backdating a transfer, for obvious reasons (such as picking the player who has accumulated the most points in the intervening period).

This year, we really need to fully clarify the rules. The onus should always be on the manager, not the chairman or anyone else. As if there isn't enough to do updating the spreadsheet every fucking week (and, in my case, just about every fucking year). Next season, anyone who fucks up a transfer should face a penalty. The rules need to be clarified so there's no room for ambiguity and no need for arbitration. Simple as that.

And yes, I forgot to mention the Cuellar transfer by Stathi. It has gone through though and the points have been included, as have all FA Cup points barring the midweek replays because, as we should all be aware by now, the FFL week ends on a Monday.

Seriously, it's about time some other cunt made his scorekeeping debut next season.

And breathe...

Collars Up said...

So in effect I have been punished twice for my honesty. Sod that, I'm saying nothing next time. Which cunt said that honesty is the best policy? Can't see it myself or is something to do with Karma? Another load of bollocks.

I agree with the assassin, time for someone else to step up having also spent countless hours trawling the FFL site to get things right for you lot.

In truth, and this is my opinion, there should be a collective responsibility to check scorers, mistakes, results etc.

Maybe if there is nine of us mnext year then we do the scores each for a month?

As for singing YNWA at OT, I'd rather coat my balls in honey and swing my crown jewells in Winnie the Pooh's cave.

Smiling Assassin said...

A month each? Are you kidding? The spreadsheet would end up looking worse than Mickey Rourke's face. No, just one scorer but the onus must be on managers to keep within the rules for their teams. It's not asking for much - just don't buy 3 players from 1 team, simple as that. There's nothing else to think about.

As for Ballackgate, how are you being punsihed twice Mike? You lose the 11 points that you got from Ballack but you get 2 back that Palacios picked up since you transferred him. You've essentially lost 9 points but you've got your transfer back.

Hi gang, don't laugh, but it's taken me 5 years to work this shit out and finally log on. I don't mind doing the scores next year if I get a lesson from somebody on how to set it all up.
