Simple question - you have inherited a North London all time greats squad and have to pick a starting eleven, lining up to play 4-4-2 from the following:
Seaman, Clemence
Dixon, Carr, Hughton, Sansom, O'Leary, Adams, Mabbutt, Gough
Brady, Gascoigne, Viera, Ardiles, Hoddle, Pires, Waddle, Overmars
Klinsman, Bergkamp, Henry, Lineker
To be honest of most interest is the chosen strikeforce but let's see what we get particularly from the non-North London fans....

You know i love shit like this, but why such a small pool of players to choose from, or have you shotlisted these chosen ones?
In any case;
Seaman
Hughton Mabbutt Adams Sansom
Viera Hoddle
Waddle Gascoigne Brady
Klinsmann
Defense; Pace, bravity, aerial ability, tackling, never-say-die attitude and leadership.
Midfield Screen; Steel, mobility, passing ability, understanding of the game, set pieces, leadership.
Midfield Attack; Trickery
Striker; Work ethic, 2 good feet, aerial ability, team player, pedigree, discipline, predatory finishing, pace, attitude.
Spurs win 6-5.....
Just got back from Rome…………enjoyed all three days except for 80 minutes of a (mis)match!! Blagged a way into the VIP area. Teddy was there, Ian Rush was there FIT birds were there as well as free booze and food. Left at 3am. Smashed to pieces.
Theo did stipulate a 4-4-2 but SonOfABaker has adapted. Coach’s prerogative I suppose but I’ll stick with what was asked:
Here is my team with justifications:
Clemence
(you can’t have a gk with a tache and pony tail and voice like a bear)
Hughton Adams Gough Sansom
(are there no better right backs from AFC or THFC????. Sansom was consistency personified for a decade. I remember Gough in 1987 as a quality defender, Adams was a leader and more importantly adapted his style of play from Graham’s ponderous Wimbledon-esque tactics to Wenger’s ball players. Adams is also my captain.
Gascoigne Vieira Hoddle Pires
(A tight midfield four, Gazza is certainly no right winger. Vieira as a holding, powerful presence but could also play. Hoddle as he is simply one of the best players I saw play and technically way ahead of his time. Best English passer of all time? Gascoigne for individual ability and skill. Pires as I think for two seasons in the mid 90’s he was up there as one of the most effective left sided players in the world. Very underrated in my opinion and is a much better footballer than Waddle. No Brady I hear you ask? Never saw him play and what I have heard is very much like Hoddle.
Henry Lineker
(Henry is another player who I thought for 2 or 3 seasons was up there as one of the best in the game. He didn’t run, he glided on the pitch like a ballerina. Why Lineker? In a team like this you need someone who is simply going to put the ball in the back of the net. He is the best at that from all those on your list. Difficult to leave out Bergkamp but Gascoigne can do what he does as well as play in midfield so that is my reasoning there. No Klinsman? Henry is the better footballer to play alongside a goalscorer)
I haven’t picked the ‘best’ players, but a team to win a match.
Next…………………………
For what it's worth this started as a "we're bored watching the Barca procession" and is posted as our main argument was up front.......
My Team:
Clemence
Viv Anderson / Adams / Mabbutt / Sansom
Pires / Hoddle / Vierra / Gasgoine
Henry / Bergkamp
Cannot leave out DB10 for Lineker even if it leaves poor old Paddy Viera with some serious work to do.
Stathi - what is bravity? Is it a mixture of brevity and bravery - like bravery in succint bursts? I like it - it's my new favourite word.
Hmm, i think you're right. Not sure what the Stavros Flatley i wrote there.
Anyway, i like bravity and it should be incorporated into the modern lexicon along words such as 'Vurp' and Nakatch'. Anyway, brevity prevents me from writing at greater length....
For the record i wanted Viv Anderson at RB but i'm not a renegade like James. Hmm, biren o nous dou aeran...
As my right honourable friend George Kaplan says, this started out from getting bored of Barcelona's football education (by the way, sorry I forgot Viv Anderson) and picking out the best eleven from our own respective teams that we've each had the pleasure to watch on a regular basis...
For the record, my team:
Clemence - I love goalkeepers that boss the defence
Hughton - with hindsight he gets the nod over Sansom because of his attacking prowess (and also for the two goals against Arsenal in that 5-0 drubbing...)
Anderson - as Collars Up says there seems to be a dearth of decent right backs but here's one who would do us proud - pace, strength, aerial ability and also great going forward
Adams - love him or hate a great leader and a passionate footballer
Mabbutt - you need a footballing centre half to play next to the 'catch the bullet' partner, and like Adams a great leader
Gascoigne - footballing genius, the boy had it all
Hoddle - God
Pires - great skill, great vision, plenty of goals
Viera - because we need someone to win the ball for the rest of the midfield to play!
Henry - pace, skill, trickery, great goal scorer, scorer of great goals and a nice bloke too
Klinsmann - in his prime one of the best, two great feet, great in the air, great finisher (fantastic record at all levels, in different leagues) and to cap it all a great work ethic
Now - howabout best starting eleven we've ever seen ever?!
Now you are talking Mr Mouse. I could easily have just said “see Wednesday” but here goes. I feel privileged to have seen some top footballers. Probably missed loads out. Too difficult.
Schemichel
Cafu Thuram Maldini
Figo Keane Zidane Giggs
Kaka
Fat Ronaldo Henry
Schemichel – best ever goalkeeper. No one else compares. Not even Les Sealey.
Why have four defenders when you have those ahead of you???
Cafu – how fit was he? Great going forward.
Thuram – strong, disciplined
Maldini - Legend
Midfield:
Difficult this. Hoddle? Pires? Nedved? Pirlo? Iniesta? Xavi? Hoddle? Robson? Ronaldo? Definitely NOT Stevie ME
Figo – Genuinely two footed. Devastating ability to pass a man and shoot or pass.
Zidane – best footballer since Maradona. Could do everything with ball. Legend
Keane – Leader, hard, can dictate the pace of a game. My captain
Giggs – Best winger of the past 20 years. At his best he was sensational. Villa Park 1999.
In the hole:
Kaka – Wow. With the ball at his feet anything is possible. Nearly went for Ronaldinho.
Forwards? Difficult again. Crespo? Shevchenko? Eric? Klinsmann? Van Nistelrooy? Raul? Del Piero? Messi? Torres? Martin Hayes?
Fat Ronaldo - stunning. Pace, power, skill and a goalscorer. Pity about the dodgy knees and the belly. (and the teeth and that shit haircut for 2002 World Cup final)
Henry – glided through games. Along with Zidane the only player I genuinely shat myself when he had the ball at Old Trafford.
By the way, ginola wasn't on thbe original shortlist....
Mike, I think you've been privileged watching your team
In the CL for years and as a result are
At a massive advantage.
I propose we do our worse ever 11 for our prospective teams.
Funnily enough this should be a piece of piss for myself and my friend Monsieur Mouse!!
4-4-2
Bobby Mimms
Guy butters
Stuart nethercott
Kevin scott or ramon vega (tough call)
Paolo tramezzani or justin edinburgh (as above)
Milenko acimovic (new trevor brooking)
Goran bumnjevcevic (new franz beckenbaur)
Jason dozzell (new theo constantinides), sorry tc, couldn't resist)
Maurizio tatricco
Raziak
Helder postiga (too young, wrong time)
So many more sadly....

Worst United XI I have seen - difficult this but there are some true shockers here!
3-5-2 formation
GK:
Roy Carroll
Defence:
Milne - Donaghy - Prunier
Midfield:
Chadwick Kleberson Djemba Djemba Webb Ferguson
Forwards:
Forlan Bellion
Oh my god Theo.......Hughton for Sansom..........any modicum of footballing respect.......gone. That's like saying Steve Williams for Gazza ............for pissing on Spurs a few times.
Gotta be 3 at the back fro me to as struggle to come up with REALLY poor LM over the years.
Also probably worst players to have played at also take into account the expectations....
3-4-3
Richard Wright
DEFENCE:
Nelson Vivas - cost us title with gaff at Elland Road in 99.
Igor Stepanovs - nuff said
Gus Caesar - nuff said again
MIDFIELD:
Glen "soul-glow" Helder
Stefan Malz - remember him...no..exactly
Julio "first touch of a rapist and can't hit a cow's arse with a banjo" Baptista
Jimmy Carter (close run thing with McGoldrick and Kiwomya)
STRIKERS (if u can call them that):
Francis Jeffers
Kaba Diawara
Lee "wife-beater" Chapman
Pace, touch, movement, guile, clinical finishing just non-existent between the 3 of them...
SUBS: Shabaan-Cygan-McGoldrick-Kiwomya-Christopher Wreh
Glen Helder? You told him to keep running down that wing. Man. He was just following your orders.
