Forlan reveals boot furore
Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan has said that Sir Alex Ferguson let him leave Old Trafford five years ago after an argument about the length of his studs. The Uruguay international, who scored 17 goals in 97 appearances for United, has revealed that he fell out with the veteran Scottish manager over his choice of footwear.
Forlan, who has gone on to enjoy prolific spells with Villarreal and Atletico Madrid since leaving England, said: "Ferguson wanted me to play with long studs, the interchangeable ones that suit wet pitches, but I feel more comfortable in short ones.
"I agreed to change but I didn't and, against Chelsea, I slipped in front of goal and wasted a chance.
"Afterwards, I rushed to the dressing room to change boots but Ferguson caught me. He grabbed the boots and threw them. That was my last game for United."
