The name's Barnes. Giles Barnes.

It seems like Spurs are intent on ruining any chances Derby have of holding on to a decent player (or even shit ones like Rasiak) these days. Anyway, since I've been asked on several occasions to assess Giles Barnes, another young prodigy, here's the answer:

An odd week for the leaders this one. Mike must've been creaming his tight red, bedevilled pants watching Keane and Berbatov rip into Bolton on Sunday, every goal counting for 4 points with Meite in Nick's team. Then he goes and gets sent off. To rub salt into the wounds, Nick beats him to the purchase of Ashley Cole with Ferreira (the most expensive full-back in the league).

So, it's still tight at the top, with Yakubu and Keane racking up the points and clean sheets for Liverpool every week. James stays within 9, but he'll need Liverpool to start conceding fast. On an inconsequential note, Theo top scored with 12 and Donald flopped with -1. The rest of us just look on.

The scores:

FFL 2006/07
LEAGUE TABLE

Total Points
1st Nick Ach 302
2nd Mike 301
3rd James 293
4th Sid 270
5th Nick Ath 253
6th Rico 245
7th Donald 242
8th Theo 216
9th Steve 207
10th Stathi 173

All 3 leaders battled it out for Cole, with Ferreira winning over Chimbonda and Aurelio. Nick went all out this week, also trying to snap up the in-form Jenas (you've already got 2 Spurs players) and bidding for the returning Darren Bent. Unfortunately for him, Bellamy was worth more so he's mine, ALL MINE, MOUHOUHOUHOUHOUHAHAHAHAHA!

Bed time for me.

Joke of the day........

"Tottenham are ready to enter the race for Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o, according to reports from Spain"...................................hmmmm!!

I fear this may be your response.....

Now Wenger's at it!

Not content with having the missus plead on his behalf to win FFL this season, but Mr Kaplan also has the support of a certain Mr. Wenger!

"More games from replays are not what Mr Kaplan wants, but of course I am aware it could transgress the traditions of the Dwight Yorke Cup to have him win it."

Who else is in his corner?

George Dubya - who may say something like this: "I understand the complexities of the FFL because it is just that, complex. However, those past winners or how I would like to call them, the axis of evil, have to acknowledge that we will not veer away from our duty to allow the FFL trophy to reside with Mr Kaplan." (or something like that!)

Mighty Mouse, is this you?????

FFL Week 23

This is turning into some scrap at the top with the FA Cup proving to be crucial in the fortunes of the frontrunners. Nick in particular must be rubbing his hands together every time Middlesbrough secure another replay - Yakubu and Downing have scored 24 points between them in the FA Cup this year, and they've got another replay to come against West Brom.

Because of a dodgy spreadsheet (fixed now, I believe), I'm not sure who top scored this week, but I think it was Mike. There were some midweek games to take into account, but the result is that Mike is now 3 points away from Nick at the top, with James on his tail too. He has Robbie Keane's heroics on Sunday to thank for that. The woe of letting Martins go must now be abating. So, the scores are:

FFL 2006/07
LEAGUE TABLE
Total Points
1st Nick Ach 293
2nd Mike 290
3rd James 288
4th Sid 270
5th Nick Ath 249
6th Donald 243
7th Rico 235
8th Theo 204
9th Steve 202
10th Stathi 164

No transfers to record this week, so that wraps it up for now.

FFL week 23 update..........

First of all, may I ask EVERYONE to check their scores as the spreadsheet has more holes in it than America's War on Terror and Tony Blair's Education Policy combined. Bascially, it is fucked and while I am trying to re-build it using older versions it may need a COMPLETE overhaul (TC HELP!!!!!!).

Anyway, the current scores DO NOT include the midweek FA Cup points (a bonanza for Nick and James that make a significat change to the top of the table - see below)

One transfer from Sid who swaps Ledley "will I ever kick a ball again?" King for Alan "I can't believe I'm still kciking a ball" Stubbs

Top score this week goes to Don with a creditable 14 thanks to a dozen from Drogba and Evra. At the top it is too close to call with (before midweek games remember!) ONE point covering the top three and Sid just 11 points off top spot:

Total Points Diff
Nick Ach 279
Mike 279 0
James 278 1
Sid 268 11
Nick Ath 244 35
Donald 229 50
Rico 227 52
Theo 203 76
Steve 188 91
Stathi 153 126

The weekend sees the FA Cup return with 8 fifth round ties but with only nine premiership sides playing (this included Fulham and Watford!).
Nick PC may feel the abscence of his Liverpool duo but Yakubu could gets some goals against West Brom with Downing assists!
Elsewhere, Gallas returns to the Arsenal squad much to James' delight and with the run-in, any clean sheets will be gratefully received.
Rooney is suspended for yours truly and only a hat-trick from the wobbly lipped one (Rio Ferdinand) will keep me in the running! (any chance of a Robbie Keane goal???????)
McNick will be hoping Mr 'Deflection and in' (Lampard) will score a few against the might of Norwich but with the Champions League being played in midweek, Maureen may decided to rest some of his players! (so long as its not Cech!)

Enjoy the weekend

I see that my husband is in second place. Please, please, please can you let him win this year? It would be great for him to win just once!

One rule for some............................

Is it just a coincidence that one of my favourite books is '1984' given how I currently feel about SKY Sports?

The organisation is truly what Geroge Orwell envisaged as Big Brother as well as The Ministry of Truth which, may I remind those who are not familiar with the book, exercises complete control over all mass media and employs the book's protagonist Winston at the Records Department, where he doctors historical records in order to comply with the Party's version of the past. Since the events of the present constantly shape the perception of the past, the task is a never-ending one.

It seems to me that this is what SKY are doing and which leads nicely on to this morning's RANT:

First of all, click on this link and tell me that this was not possibly the WORST dive you have seen this season? I defy you to condemn the perpetrator as a blatant cheat. Had it been Ronaldo, Drogba, Robben or Andy Johnson then Mr 'I wax my hands to not look hairy on TV' Keys and his pundit friends would have been apoplectic with rage. But this time? Oh no.

"He lost his balance" Andy Gray said. "The referee is entitled to let that go" he continued.
Where is the condemnation? Sorry, I forgot. This is Saint Thierry. He is beyond reproach. Moreover, I have it on good authority that at least once during a televised match one of the pundits HAS to either say:
1) He is the best player in the world, or
2) How he has never been voted World Player of the Year is beyond me.

The man can do no wrong.

Now, let me at this stage point out that for me he has been one of the greatest football talents I have had the pleasure to witness. He is sublime on the ball - balletic almost - and a scorer of truly wonderful goals. BUT, in the past 12 months he has shown a decidedly negative side to his persona. We all know about his ego but that isn't a problem for me. Non-Arsenal fans HATE his lame celebrations but are they any different to the celebrations Cantona was eulogised for by the OT faithful? Not in my opinion.

However, his gracelessness is beginning to irritate (juts a tad!). It all started when (again this is MY opinion and something I heard) Barcelona PULLED OUT of signing him prior to the Champins League Final. Their rationale was that having analysed his game the coaching staff felt that his starting position when Arsenal attacked was identical to Ronaldinho's. It was concluded therefore that spending £XXm was excessive since they had THE WORLD'S BEST PLAYER (voted, acknowledged AND accepted by everyone except SKY!) operating in more or less the same way from the same part of the pitch.
Cue his rant after the Champions League defeat - "they are women", "I didn't see Ronaldinho..." etc etc.
Incidently, Barcelona had 'strung' Henry along for weeks after coming to the above conclusion. When the sides were set to meet in the final, Barca then pulled out of the deal in an act of gamesmanship to 'play with his mind.' It worked I guess and ever since he has felt a sense of "what might have been"

Lets also not forget his lame excuse for falling to the ground and holding his face when there was a 'tangle' with Puyol at the World Cup. "In my head I'm not a guy who does go down or cheats."

Really? Can you say that after yesterday? Unequivocally no.

What is the point of this rant? It is not (believe it or not an attack on TH14) I want a parity of reaction. The issue about the Henry dive is that, again, nothing will be made of it. There were lots of incidents this weekend, as there are every weekend, where players go down far too easilybut it seems it's only an issue when it's the likes of Ronaldo or Drogba. If they are going to chastise players for diving or making the most of little contact then it should be done for every player, not just those players where the media have an agenda.

RANT over (cue gazillions of responses!)

Fight! Fight! Fight!

Since watching that QPR-Chinese brawl the other day, I've been thinking. Why not just start each match with a fight, let players get some historic bitterness out of their systems and then get on with the football. Maybe Alf-Inge Haaland might still be playing today?

The yanks know how to do it:

Couldn't resist.................

I know there is an element hypocrisy here but while United fans were STEADFASTLY against ANY takeover, those bastions of football history and tradition whored themselves to whoever who would listen. It was a pity DIC(k) were not the company to buy them but there is a sense of irony that the Yanks have bought them. (No more U-S-A chants at OT then!)

Anyway, not content with prostituting themselves to the highest bidder, they are also moving! Sooooooooo, it seems appropriate to show the following:

Also, rumours abound that there may also be a name change. Current favourite is THE LIVERPOOL STEALERS...............

FFL Week 22

A busy week this one, in terms of both points and transfers. Some midweek action saw everyone hit double-figures for the week, except for Steve and your Chairman.

Top scoring this week was the busiest manager of the season so far - Rico. All transfers now made, he can look forward to sitting back and watching his team climb the table. If he carries on scoring 26 points every week, like he did this week, who knows? Carew will be a decent addition.

At the top, Nick and Mike both had good weeks, scoring 19 and 20 respectively. James's week was an average one, with 12 points (thanks to Spurs's leaky defence). So, the scores:

Nick Ach 276
James 271
Mike 267
Sid 259
Nick Ath 239
Rico 223
Donald 221
Theo 197
Steve 182
Stathi 148

Transfers

A busy week, as you can see:

Rico: IN Carew, OUT Baros
Mike: IN Milner, OUT Francis
Theo: IN Arbeloa, OUT Cole
Nick Ath: IN Lescott, OUT Ooijer
James: IN Johnson, OUT Bent

Nick PC tried to buy Wayne Bridge but Steve's already got him. Next time you see him, laugh and point.

And the beat goes on...
